Safe & Sound Protocol

Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP)

What is Safe and Sound Protocol?

Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is a form of listening-based therapy that I offer as a complement to my other evidence based therapeutic approaches. SSP’s primary objective is to gently shift the nervous system to a state that supports well-being, emotional connection, and openness to learning and healing. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.

Prospective listeners begin with screening and an interview. This helps me to understand your nervous system, personal history, and any sensitivities you may have. To optimize SSP’s results to feel safe and supportive, I will help you pace the listening process.

We are unique and move through the SSP at a different pace, which is absolutely okay. Completion time varies, from as little as 2 weeks to several months or even a year, depending on your sensitivity, your nervous system’s response, and the level of support you may need along the way.

I am very delighted to offer Safe and Sound Protocol throughout Ontario via online and in person in the GTA.

SSP’s role to tackle Anxiety:

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) enables the nervous system feel safer and more regulated. Symptoms of anxiety often arises when there is no real danger, keeping the nervous system in a constant state of threat or alert.

To calm the body and support feelings of safety and connection, SSP uses specially filtered music to gently stimulate the vagus nerve, which communicates to your body that you’re safe. As a result, SSP helps regulate your heart rate, digestion, social engagement, as well as emotional responses.

In short, SSP helps build a foundation of safety in the body, which can reduce anxiety and support healing from stress or trauma.

SSP’s advantage towards Neurodivergence:

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is well-suited to support individuals who are neurodivergent–  autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and learning challenges. These individuals experience a nervous system that is more sensitive to stress, sound, and social interaction. As a result, this can lead to feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, or difficulty with focussing and connection.

SSP works directly with the nervous system, bypassing the need for verbal communication, requires no cognitive effort or verbal participation from the client, which can be particularly supportive for children, non-speaking individuals who face challenges with traditional therapy.

SSP is not limited to the above challenges, but also beneficial towards most other concerns such as PTSD, Depression, Chronic fatigue, sleep challenges, Disordered eating and much more.
